| Obverse description | Central field occupied by multiple horizontal lines of Arabic Kufic script arranged within a double circular border, conveying the Shahada and Abbasid caliph's name. The inner legend is contained within a plain inner circle, surrounded by an annular marginal legend in Arabic script running along the outer border. The flan is irregularly shaped, as characteristic of hammered Islamic gold coinage, with slightly uneven edges. The overall design follows the classical Abbasid epigraphic dinar tradition, with no figural imagery. The inscription reads the declaration of faith: 'There is no god but God alone, He has no partner; al-Qa'im bi-amr Allah.' |
