Obverse description Central field dominated by the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) inscribed in Arabic script within a square cartouche divided into horizontal registers: the upper register bears the first part of the Shahada and the lower registers complete the declaration. The inscription is rendered in angular, deeply struck Arabic lettering characteristic of Chagatai coinage. A decorative border of small pellets or beads encircles the outer rim. The overall layout follows the standard square-in-circle design typical of Central Asian Islamic hammered silver coinage of the mid-14th century.
