Obverse description Bust of Bahram II facing right, wearing the distinctive winged crown surmounted by a korymbos (hair bundle enclosed in a globe). A Pahlavi legend surrounds the effigy reading 'Mzdysn bgy wrhr'n MRK' 'yr'n MN yzd'n,' translating as 'The Mazda-worshipping divine Bahram, King of Kings of Iran, of divine descent.' The portrait is rendered in the characteristic Sasanian style with bold linear engraving, the royal regalia and facial features executed in high relief. The blundered nature of certain letter forms reflects provincial mint production.
