| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of Ardashir II in high relief, wearing an elaborate Sasanian mural crown surmounted by a korymbos (hair bundle) encased in a spherical diadem, with long beaded locks of hair falling behind the neck. The king is depicted with a full beard and mustache rendered in fine detail, and is dressed in a draped robe with decorative neckline. A Pahlavi legend encircles the effigy in the field, reading the royal titulature. The flan is irregular and the coin's fabric is characteristic of early Sasanian hammered gold coinage. |
