Obverse description Irregularly shaped hammered gold dinar with multiple lines of Kufic-style Arabic inscription filling the central field, arranged in horizontal registers. The central legend proclaims the shahada and identifies the Abbasid Caliph al-Mustansir Billah as Amir al-Muminin. A Quranic passage from Surah al-Tawbah surrounds the central text. The surfaces display the characteristic granular texture and uneven flan typical of medieval Islamic hammered coinage, with legends occupying virtually the entire obverse field without figurative imagery.
