Reverse description Central square cartouche filled with multiple lines of Arabic inscription in Maghribi script, recording the name and titles of the Almohad caliph Abu Yusuf Ya'qub al-Mansur together with religious formulae affirming Almohad doctrine. Marginal legends in Arabic occupy the circular border surrounding the square, running continuously around the coin's periphery. A beaded border delineates the inner square from the outer field. The reverse, like the obverse, is entirely epigraphic in character, reflecting the strict aniconic ideology of the Almohad dynasty.
