Additional information

Abu Yahya ibn Abd al-Haqq founded the Marinid dynasty proper after decades of the Banu Marin operating as mercenary vassals under the Almohads. These early dinars were struck while the Marinids were still consolidating control over northern Morocco, actively fighting both Almohad remnants and the Zayyanid sultanate to the east. The gold standard they maintained — deliberately echoing Almohad fineness — was a political calculation as much as a monetary one, projecting legitimacy to audiences who still associated that weight and purity with the previous dynasty's authority.
