Obverse description Central field occupied by the Islamic profession of faith (shahada) and additional religious legend arranged in multiple horizontal lines of Arabic kufic-style script within a plain inner circle. The central inscription is enclosed by a raised circular border, beyond which a circular marginal legend in Arabic script runs around the periphery, itself bounded by an outer dotted or beaded border. The flan is irregular in shape, as typical of hammered gold coinage of the Ghaznavid period, with slightly uneven edges and a flat, unstruck field visible in places.

Reverse description Central field bearing a multi-line Arabic inscription in kufic-style script arranged in horizontal registers within a plain inner circle, naming the Prophet Muhammad as the Messenger of God and citing the honorific titles and name of the Ghaznavid ruler 'Abd al-Rashid. A circular marginal legend in Arabic script encircles the central medallion, separated from it by a raised linear border, with the whole design enclosed within an outer beaded or dotted border. The hammered flan displays the characteristic irregular outline and slightly uneven surface relief of medieval Islamic gold coinage.
