| Reverse description | The reverse is centred on a large hexagonal guilloche medallion bearing the fractional numeral 1/2, set against ornate multicolour rosette underprints in pink and blue. At left, an intaglio vignette portrays the aluminium smelting facilities of Alba (Aluminium Bahrain) in fine line engraving. The English legends BAHRAIN MONETARY AGENCY and HALF DINAR appear above and below the central motif respectively, with the denomination numeral 1/2 repeated at each lateral border. |

The Bahrain Monetary Agency was established in 1973, the same year this series was issued — making these first-series notes the founding currency of the agency itself, issued as Bahrain moved to replace the Bahrain Government notes that had circulated since 1965. De La Rue's involvement was unsurprising; they had printed the earlier government series as well, providing continuity in security specifications during the transition.
The half-dinar denomination saw heavy use in daily retail transactions and surviving uncirculated examples are genuinely harder to locate than the higher values from this series.
