| Reverse description | The silphium plant, the celebrated emblem of Cyrene, depicted frontally at center with its characteristic thick taproot, branching stalk, and distinctive seed-head at the apex. Flanking the plant on each side are coiled serpents, their bodies intertwining with the lower branches of the silphium, a motif associated with chthonic and healing symbolism. The Greek legend KYPA is divided across the field, with KY to the lower left and PA to the lower right of the central device. The composition is boldly rendered, filling the entire flan in a confident, symmetrical arrangement. |
