Reverse description A fully open rose depicted in plan view occupies the centre of the field, with a budding rose to the right, both being the civic emblems of Rhodes. To the left, a stern of a galley is shown. The ethnic legend ΡΟΔΙΩΝ (of the Rhodians) appears flanking the rose stem, with the magistrate's name ΑΜΕΙΝΙΑΣ (Ameinias) also distributed around the central device, identifying this issue within the Rhodian plinthophoric series. The design is bold and well-centred, characteristic of the accomplished die-cutters active at the Rhodian mint during the early second century BC.
