| Obverse description | Head of Athena facing left, wearing an Attic helmet adorned with an elaborate crest and a forepart of a griffin as the bowl decoration; a small owl perches atop the helmet. The goddess's features are rendered in a refined, high-relief style characteristic of the Velian school, with flowing locks of hair visible beneath the helmet's cheek-guard. A small ethnic control letter appears on the cheek-guard of the helmet. The flan is broad and well-struck, with the effigy filling the field in an accomplished late Classical engraving style attributable to the artist Kleudoros. |
