| Obverse description | Nude warrior on horseback galloping to left, his body turned slightly forward as he draws back his right arm to cast a javelin; the horse is rendered with vigorous archaic energy, its legs extended at full gallop. The rider wears a crested helmet, and the composition fills the broad, unbordered field of the flan. No legend appears on the obverse. The style is characteristic of early Sicilian coinage of the Archaic period, showing bold, high-relief modeling. |
