Obverse description Nude warrior on horseback galloping to left, his body turned slightly forward as he draws back his right arm to cast a javelin; the horse is rendered with vigorous archaic energy, its legs extended at full gallop. The rider wears a crested helmet, and the composition fills the broad, unbordered field of the flan. No legend appears on the obverse. The style is characteristic of early Sicilian coinage of the Archaic period, showing bold, high-relief modeling.

Reverse description Forepart of a man-headed bull, representing the god of the river Gelas, striding to the right with head turned frontally; the bearded, long-haired head is rendered with fine detail including a flowing beard and alert ear, and the muscular bovine forequarters are depicted with granulated surface texture suggesting the animal's hide. The figure is set within a shallow circular incuse square. The ethnic legend ΓΕΛΑΣ appears in Greek characters along the lower field, partially distributed around the figure.
