| Reverse description | Owl of Athena (Athena noctua) standing right with head turned to face the viewer, rendered with characteristic stippled plumage and large frontal eyes, a hallmark of Athenian civic coinage. To the upper left, an olive sprig with berries is depicted, nearly all of its leaves contained within the incuse square border. The ethnic inscription AΘE appears to the right of the owl in archaic Greek characters. The entire design is set within a shallow incuse square, itself contained within a circular incuse, a technical feature of the transitional coinage of this period. |
