Obverse description Facing gorgoneion (head of Medusa) depicted full face, rendered in the archaic style with bulging eyes, a broad flattened nose, and a wide open mouth displaying prominent teeth and a protruding tongue. The hair is rendered as tight curling locks arranged symmetrically around the face, with serpentine elements visible at the crown. The face fills the flan almost entirely, with strong relief characteristic of early Athenian coinage. No legend or inscription appears in the field.
