Obverse description Head of the local nymph Segesta in three-quarter facing right, rendered in fine early classical style with delicately incised flowing hair swept back and bound with a plain diadem or fillet, the facial features exhibiting the characteristic transitional archaic-to-classical treatment. A partial Greek legend appears in the right field. The overall relief is high and the portraiture displays considerable artistic refinement characteristic of western Greek coinage of the second quarter of the fifth century BC.
