Obverse description Bearded head of Hercules in right profile, clad in the Nemean lion's skin headdress, the scalp worn over the crown with the forepaws knotted at the throat. A secondary symbol appears to the left of the effigy, varying by emission: dagger, club, spearhead, sword-belt, or thunderbolt; some specimens are struck without a symbol. The portraiture is rendered in a bold, vigorous Italic style characteristic of Bruttian bronze coinage of the Second Punic War period.
