| Obverse description | Central field displays the arms of Bern — a rampant bear passant to sinister on a diagonally divided shield — set within an ornate cartouche of scrolling acanthus foliage. The shield is rendered in relief with fine hammered detail characteristic of early 17th-century Swiss workshop practice. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, separating it from the surrounding Latin legend. The peripheral inscription reads + MONE : NO : BERNENSIS : 1620, with the date prominently placed at upper left within the legend. The entire composition is contained within the square klippe planchet, the corners of which extend beyond the circular die area. |
