| Obverse description | The armorial bear of Bern, depicted passant to the left with raised forepaw and detailed fur rendering, occupies the central field within a raised inner circle. Above the bear's back, a displayed imperial eagle with spread wings serves as a heraldic crest. The circumferential Latin legend reads +·MONETA * NO : BERNENSIS:, separated from the central device by the inner circle, with the inscription running along the entire toothed border. |

| Reverse description | A bold fourfold cross with flared terminals divides the inner field into four quarters, each adorned with a trefoil or foliate lily ornament in the angles, all contained within a raised inner circle. The cross arms extend to the inner circle, giving the design a strong architectural symmetry characteristic of early Swiss cantonal coinage. The circumferential Latin legend + · BERCH : D : ZERING : CONDITOR, a reference to the legendary founder Berthold of Zähringen, runs between the inner circle and the milled outer border. |
