| Reverse description | A stag or deer striding to the right occupies the central field, depicted in a naturalistic Hellenistic style with forelegs raised. The animal stands above what appears to be a small anchor or control mark in the lower field. A circular Greek legend surrounds the central type, reading in full: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΥ ΑΡΣΑΚΟΥ ΘΕΟΠΑΤΟΡΟΣ ΕΥΕΡΓΕΤΟΥ ΕΠΙΦΑΝΟΥΣ ΦΙΛΕΛΛΗΝΟΣ, translating as 'Of the Great King Arsaces, God-born, Benefactor, Illustrious, Philhellene.' The inscription is characteristic of the royal titulature adopted by Phraates III to legitimize his rule in Hellenistic terms. |
