Heraia was a small Arkadian polis on the south bank of the Alpheios river, and its bronze coinage circulated primarily within a tight regional economy rather than across broader Peloponnesian trade networks. The BCD Peloponnesos collection — assembled by the collector known only by those initials and dispersed at Leu Numismatik auctions beginning in 2021 — represented the most systematic private gathering of Peloponnesian bronzes ever formed, and the reference numbers it generated have since become the working standard for this material.
