Obverse description Bare male head of the hero Gyrton facing right, rendered in archaic-influenced style, juxtaposed before the head and neck of a bridled horse also facing right. The hero's facial features are strongly modelled, occupying the left portion of the field, while the horse's bridled profile fills the right. The composition is characteristically Thessalian, combining the eponymous founder's portrait with the region's celebrated equestrian iconography.
