Obverse description Full-length frontal figure of Saint Maurelius, patron and first bishop of Ferrara, depicted in episcopal vestments consisting of a draped chasuble and alb, wearing a mitre. The saint raises his right hand in a gesture of benediction and holds a pastoral staff (crozier) in his left hand. The figure stands within a plain field, rendered in the medieval hammered style typical of Este dynastic coinage. A circular beaded border frames the composition, with the Latin legend distributed around the periphery.
