Obverse description Central plain cross with slightly expanded arms occupying the majority of the field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend reads LODOI CVS (Louis), separated by a cross at the start, in crude but legible Latin capitals. The area between the beaded circle and the irregular coin edge shows remnants of the legend. The style is characteristic of Carolingian-derived feudal coinage, with an unrefined, hand-struck appearance typical of 10th–11th century French seigneurial deniers.
