Obverse description Central device depicting a cow passant to the right, surmounted by a crown, the emblematic symbol of Béarn. The figure occupies the central field of the flan and is rendered in a bold, if somewhat crude, medieval hammered style characteristic of feudal French coinage. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads + HENRICVS: DEI G., identifying the issuer as Henry, by the grace of God. The flan is irregular and the legends partially weak due to the hand-struck technique.
