Obverse description Central cross pattée with a grouping of three pellets and a small cross motif in the angles, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The crude hammered execution characteristic of Ottonian episcopal coinage imparts an irregular, hand-struck character to the design. The surrounding field carries the bishop's name and title in a continuous Latin legend. Individual letters are rendered in the angular, archaic majuscule style typical of early medieval German ecclesiastical issues.
