Obverse description Draped bust of William IX, Prince of Orange, facing right, with loosely curled hair falling to the shoulder. The portrait is rendered in a bold, somewhat provincial style typical of mid-17th century feudal coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading GVILLELM D.G.PRI.AVR, proclaiming William as prince of Orange by the grace of God. The legend is interrupted at the base by the truncation of the bust. The coin's milled edge border is visible at the periphery.
