Obverse description Bust of Louis XIII facing right, depicted as a young monarch with flowing hair, set within a plain inner circle. The effigy is rendered in low relief in the hammered style characteristic of early French copper coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner circle, reading the king's royal title and name. The overall composition is typical of French denier tournois coinage of the early seventeenth century, with the portrait occupying the central field.
