Obverse description Laureate and cuirassed right-facing bust of Henri III, the portrait rendered in three distinct varieties corresponding to the years 1578, 1579, and 1580 respectively, with variations in the laurel wreath lacing and collar treatment across bust types. The effigy is depicted with a flat collar and armoured cuirass, the drapery and laurel details differing subtly between specimens. The legend begins at 12 o'clock and runs clockwise around the bust within a dotted or beaded inner circle. The inscription identifies the king as Henri III, King of France and Poland.
