Obverse description Facing left, laureate and draped bust of Henri III, King of France and Poland, depicted in profile within the coin's field. The effigy is rendered in low relief, consistent with the hammered coinage technique of the period. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, reading HENRI.III.R.DE.FRAN.E.POL, identifying the monarch by his royal titles. The flan is irregular in shape, characteristic of hammered copper small coinage of late 16th-century France. Overall striking is weak in places due to the manual hammering process.
