Reverse description A plain cross with equal arms occupies the central field, set within a quatrefoil of four rounded lobes forming an inner frame — a hallmark device of the Tournois coinage tradition. The cross terminals extend to meet the inner edges of the quatrefoil. Surrounding this central motif is a circular Latin legend reading SIT NOMEN DNI BENEDIT, an abbreviation of the devotional phrase Sit Nomen Domini Benedictum (Blessed be the Name of the Lord). The legend is enclosed between beaded borders, and the overall design conforms closely to the long-established type of the denier tournois as struck under the later Valois kings.
