Obverse description Central field displays a crowned fleur-de-lis device composed of three fleurs-de-lis arranged in a trefoil formation beneath a royal crown, all set within a plain inner circle. The design is rendered in the late Gothic style characteristic of the early Valois-Angouleme coinage. A pellet or annulet serving as the mint mark appears above the crown. The circumferential Latin legend, reading + FRANCISCVS: FRANCO: REX, identifies the issuer as Francis I, King of France, and runs between the inner and outer borders of the coin.
