Obverse description Bareheaded bust of Duke Theoderic facing left, rendered in a stylized medieval manner, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The effigy displays rudimentary facial features characteristic of early medieval die-cutting. The circumscription reads THEODERICVS DVX, running around the outer field, separated by a cross at the beginning of the legend. The lettering is arranged in the coarse but expressive style typical of Lotharingian hammered coinage of the late 10th to early 11th century.
