Reverse description Central device depicting the distinctive Champenois comb, a heraldic emblem associated with the Counts of Champagne, surmounted by the letter T (for Theobald) and flanked on either side by an inverted crescent. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend identifies the mint location as the castle of Provins, the principal comital seat and major commercial center of the County of Champagne. The overall style is consistent with late 12th-century feudal hammered silver coinage of northeastern France.
