Obverse description A plain cross with splayed arms occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The cross arms extend to the inner border, dividing the central zone into four equal quadrants. A retrograde Latin legend runs around the outer field between the beaded circle and the coin's irregular flan edge. The striking is characteristic of mid-eleventh-century Champenois hammered billon coinage, with uneven metal flow visible at the periphery.
