| Additional information |
Sebastiano di Monfalcone's tenure as Bishop of Lausanne was defined less by ecclesiastical administration than by the mounting pressure of the Reformation sweeping through the Swiss Confederation. He was the last bishop to exercise meaningful temporal authority over Lausanne before Bern's military intervention in 1536 dissolved the Catholic diocese's secular power entirely. The Bernese conquest ended coin production from the Lausanne bishopric for good.
