Obverse description Central field occupied by the name of the issuing archbishop, presented in two lines reading SAN / SON within a rectangular panel surmounted by a stylized crown or architectural motif, enclosed by a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend, reading SAN SON X ARChIEPISCOP, is rendered in Romanesque characters and runs along the periphery between the inner beaded border and the irregularly shaped flan edge. The overall design reflects the feudal episcopal coinage tradition of 12th-century France, with bold, deeply struck lettering typical of hammered billon deniers of the period.
