| Obverse description | Central field features the Hungarian arms composed of four quarters, alternating horizontal stripes (representing the rivers) and a patriarchal cross on a triple-peaked mount, surrounded by a plain linear border. The mint mark 'N-B' (Nagybánya) appears divided on either side of the shield. The abbreviated royal legend encircles the shield in Latin, identifying Rudolf II as Holy Roman Emperor and King of Hungary, Germany, and Bohemia. The overall design is characteristic of the late 16th-century hammered coinage of the Hungarian royal mint, with slightly irregular planchet edges typical of hand-struck production. |
