Obverse description Central field dominated by a plain cross pattée extending to a beaded inner circle, with a small ornamental element at the top of the upright arm. The cross divides the inner field into four equal cantons. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the circumferential legend. The outer legend reads RENOS DE CVLN, referring to Reynold of Culent, lord of Charenton, struck in the Gothic hammered tradition typical of mid-13th-century French feudal issues. The flan is irregular with slight fissuring at the rim.
