Reverse description The reverse displays a quartered shield divided by a bold cross, bearing in alternate quarters the castles of Castile and the pales of Aragon, rendered in the crude but distinctive style of Aragonese hammered coinage. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle, surrounded by the peripheral legend M.ARAGONVM. followed by the date 1710 in Arabic numerals. The overall design references the traditional heraldic arms of the Spanish Crown as claimed by Philip V. The flan is irregular in shape, typical of the hammered production methods used at the Zaragoza mint during this period.
