| Obverse description | Castle of Clarence (Chlemoutsi) depicted in a stylized, heraldic manner occupying the central field, with crenellated towers and a gateway rendered in the characteristic uncial Gothic style of Achaean billon coinage. The castle device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding circular legend in uncial Latin characters reads + PHS. P. ACh TAR., abbreviating the name and title of Prince Philip of Savoy, Lord of Achaea and Taranto. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of hammered medieval billon issues. |
