| Obverse description | Central field displays a plain cross pattée extending to an inner beaded circle, dividing the field into four quarters. The cross is boldly struck in relief against a flat field. A circular legend in Latin Gothic characters surrounds the inner beaded border, reading the title of Philip as son of the king of the Franks. The overall style is characteristic of early 14th-century feudal French hammered coinage, with slightly irregular flan edges. |
