| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a bold royal monogram composed of the letters R, P, F, and A, rendered in the stylized Carolingian interlace tradition typical of Pepin the Short's coinage reform. The monogram is formed by interlocking strokes with globular terminals, occupying most of the flan. The surrounding field is plain, and the legend reads R P F A, abbreviating the royal titulature. The flan is irregular and slightly crenellated at the rim, consistent with hand-hammered production of the mid-8th century. |
