| Obverse description | Royal monogram of Pepin the Short composed of the letters R and F surmounted by a horizontal bar, rendered in bold raised relief within a plain field. The monogram, reading REX FRANCORUM (King of the Franks), is flanked by pellets to the left and additional decorative pellet elements at the base. The design is characteristically austere in the early Carolingian hammered style, with the monogram occupying the full flan. The coin is struck on an irregular, slightly ragged flan typical of the period, with a beaded border visible along the periphery. |
