Obverse description Central field occupied by a bold royal monogram composed of the letters R and P in ligature, reading 'Rex Pipinus' (King Pepin), rendered in a bold Carolingian style. A horizontal bar surmounts the monogram, a characteristic feature of Carolingian royal deniers of this period. Scattered pellets punctuate the field around the monogram. The coin is bordered by a beaded inner circle, itself enclosed within the irregularly shaped flan typical of hammered coinage. No peripheral legend is present on this type.

Reverse description Central field displays the place-name of the mint city Laon rendered as an interlaced monogram, composed of the letters of LANDVN in an elaborate Carolingian ligature. Individual letter strokes are intertwined to form a compact, symmetrical device that fills the flan. Scattered pellets are distributed around the monogram within the field. The design is enclosed by a beaded inner border following the irregular outline of the hammered flan. No additional legend surrounds the monogram.
