| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a retrograde royal monogram of Pepin, formed by interlaced letters, surmounted by a horizontal bar. The monogram, composed of the initials R and P (Rex Pipinus), is rendered in a bold, angular hammered style characteristic of early Carolingian coinage. Pellets are visible in the field flanking the monogram. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, as is typical of hand-struck deniers of this period. |
