| Obverse description | Irregular flan typical of early Carolingian hammered coinage. The field bears a two-line Latin inscription reading REX / FR, abbreviating the royal title and the designation of the Franks, rendered in bold, somewhat crude capital letters characteristic of 8th-century Frankish die-cutting. The lettering occupies the majority of the coin's surface with no border or decorative element surrounding it.
