Obverse description Central field occupied by an imperial Christogram monogram of OTTO, composed of interlaced letters in relief, enclosed within a plain inner circle. A beaded border surrounds the inner circle, with a circular Latin legend distributed around the outer field. The flan is irregular and slightly cracked, consistent with hammered medieval coinage of the Ottonian period. The die work is bold but somewhat roughly executed, typical of the Milan mint under Otto III.
