Reverse description Central field displays a stylized cross or interlaced monogram in high relief, occupying most of the flan surface and rendered in the debased, heavily abstracted manner characteristic of late tenth-century Pavian deniers. The legend is distributed around the periphery in widely spaced capital letters, partially off-flan owing to the irregular hammered planchet. The overall execution reflects the declining epigraphic standards of the Italian royal mint at Pavia during the Ottonian period.
