Obverse description Central field dominated by a plain cross dividing the coin into four quarters, each containing a small pellet or decorative element in the characteristic Ottonian hammered style. A beaded inner circle frames the cross motif, with the circumferential legend running between the inner circle and the irregular flan edge. The overall execution is typical of late tenth-century German ecclesiastical-influenced coinage, with bold, somewhat crude relief reflecting hand-struck production. The cross arms are broad and clearly defined despite the irregular flan.
